The Son of Man

Revelation l:12-13 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me, and having turned I say seven golden lamp-stands, and in the midst of the seven lamp-stands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden girdle.

John turned to see who was speaking to him,. When he turned he saw seven golden lamp-stands. The lamp-stands represent the seven churches. In the midst of the seven lamp-stands, John saw One like the Son of Man.

The Son of Man is a name given to Jesus, the Messiah. Jesus is right there in the churches. Matt. 18:20 says where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there with them. John is saying the vision came from Jesus Christ himself. Jesus was wearing a robe that reached down to His feet. This describes the high priest. Jesus is our high priest opening the way for us to come into the presence of God.

A king and a prophet, who is a messenger of God, also wore this long garment. Here we see the three fold office of Jesus as Priest, King and Prophet.
